True to my word I have changed substantial amounts of the self portrait. I think that one can only see the faults with their piece after they have had some time away, and so after a few months I decided to revisit it.
The painting just didn’t pop in the manner that I wanted- I think that this was partly due to the background behind the left figure. I decided to paint this background a darker colour to rectify this.
I also realised that a lot of the proportions on the left figure were incorrect. The nose was flat at the end and the forehead was too big. The figure also just looked too one dimensional and flat, and clearly the skin needed some reworking.
